Sonoma County Makes Getting There Easier, From Austin and Denver to the Airport Parking Lot
September 06, 2026
Sonoma County is making the journey into Wine Country a little easier. Southwest Airlines will launch seasonal Saturday nonstop service between Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on October 3, 2026, giving Central Texas travelers a direct route to Sonoma’s vineyards, redwood forests, Sonoma Coast and small towns.
The airline is also expanding its Denver service, moving to daily nonstop flights beginning March 11, 2027, after ramping up service during the fall, Thanksgiving and winter holiday periods. Meanwhile, travelers arriving at the airport will find a decidedly more modern experience on the ground. Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport has introduced California’s first Metropolis drive-in, drive-out airport parking system, allowing registered travelers to enter and exit without tickets or payment kiosks. Vehicle recognition handles payment automatically, with digital receipts sent after the trip.
The Curated Take: Air access rarely feels like a travel story until it changes the way a destination can be reached. Sonoma County’s expanding connections to Austin and Denver do exactly that, opening the region to new drive-free itineraries while making the airport experience itself more seamless. For travelers accustomed to flying into larger Bay Area airports and driving north, STS increasingly makes the case for starting the Wine Country experience closer to the vineyards.
