Sonoma’s Wine Country Is Changing the Way Travelers Taste
September 06, 2026
Wine tasting in Sonoma County is becoming less about standing at a tasting bar and more about experiencing the landscape, history and people behind the bottle.
Marimar Estate Vineyards & Winery is celebrating its 40th anniversary in Sonoma County this year, marking four decades since Marimar Torres planted Chardonnay at Don Miguel Vineyard in the Green Valley of the Russian River Valley. Today, the family-owned estate farms 70 acres across the Russian River Valley and West Sonoma Coast, producing cool-climate wines including Chardonnay and Pinot Noir while continuing its focus on sustainability and multigenerational stewardship.
Elsewhere, Stone Edge Farm Estate Vineyards & Winery has opened La Maison, its first public tasting room after more than two decades of producing limited-production estate wines. The appointment-only experience brings together Moon Mountain District wines, regenerative agriculture, gardens and residential-style hospitality. The relationship extends to nearby Enclos, Chef Brian Limoges’ newly three-Michelin-starred restaurant, with an Enclos Lounge experience pairing Stone Edge Farm wines with small plates. At the Russian River estuary, Siren’s Cellar offers another distinctly different experience: a relaxed coastal wine bar overseen by sommelier and Monte Rio Cellars winemaker Patrick Cappiello, featuring natural wines, small producers and regional food.
The Curated Take: Sonoma’s newest wine experiences are increasingly about context. A bottle becomes more memorable when you understand the vineyard, the farm, the coastline or the chef connected to it. That shift makes Wine Country feel less like a series of tasting appointments and more like a destination where agriculture, hospitality and cuisine are part of the same story.
