Sonoma County’s culinary scene is having another busy season, with new restaurants and cafés adding everything from charcoal-grilled Northern California cooking to handmade pasta, East Coast bagels and Chinese-inspired food.

On Sonoma Plaza, the team behind the girl & the fig has opened Dead Letter in a historic former post office, where seasonal seafood, meats and vegetables share the menu with a globally minded wine list and postal-inspired cocktails. In Santa Rosa, Capriciano Osteria brings chef-owner Baki Bekci’s fine-dining background to a neighborhood-style Italian restaurant centered on handmade pasta, wood-fired pizza and Sonoma County ingredients. Meanwhile, Mei Mei is planned for Healdsburg, giving Sean Quan and Jenny Phan, the team behind Bazaar Sonoma, a new home for their Chinese-style food hall and grocery concept after their Forestville restaurant was lost in a 2025 fire.

West Sonoma County is also getting a new community gathering place with Graton Station, a café and bakery taking over the town’s former firehouse. In Sebastopol, Bonnie Bagels & Co. is bringing kettle-boiled, East Coast-style bagels to downtown, while Dolce Rosa Café in Santa Rosa’s Rincon Valley combines brunch, Italian-inspired dishes and specialty espresso drinks, with pistachio making an especially prominent appearance across the menu.

The Curated Take: The most interesting thing about Sonoma’s restaurant boom isn’t simply the number of openings. It’s the range of stories behind them. Chefs are bringing fine-dining experience into neighborhood spaces, couples are rebuilding after loss, historic buildings are finding new lives and longtime local businesses are creating gathering places. The result is a food scene that feels increasingly woven into the communities travelers come to explore.
