Navigating a busy airport may soon feel a little more like having a personal guide. Boston Logan International Airport has introduced Amelia, a life-size, hyper-realistic AI hologram designed to help passengers find gates, restaurants, shops, lounges and baggage claim through natural conversation. The pilot, launched by the Massachusetts Port Authority in partnership with Proto Hologram and Holomedia AI, combines a human-scale holographic presence with live mapping, airport information and real-time TSA wait times.

Amelia can communicate in up to 40 languages, with English, Spanish and French included in the initial service, and can connect travelers with a live customer service agent when human assistance is needed. Accessibility features include closed captioning, high-contrast displays, WCAG-compliant mapping and wheelchair-accessible positioning. The system is designed to remain available around the clock while helping airport staff focus on more complex passenger needs.

The Curated Take

The intriguing part of Amelia isn’t simply that she is a hologram. It is the attempt to make airport technology feel more intuitive and human at precisely the moment travelers tend to feel most disoriented. If passengers can ask a question naturally, see the route mapped in real time and still reach a human when necessary, the technology could make one of travel’s least glamorous rituals, getting through an airport, noticeably calmer.
