Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef Reimagines Barefoot Luxury for 2027
September 18, 2026
Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef is preparing to enter a new chapter, with a major refurbishment set to transform the eco-luxury camp before it reopens in late March 2027. Tucked among the dunes of Western Australia’s Cape Range National Park and just steps from the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Reef, the 16-tent retreat will introduce redesigned Wilderness Tents with private ensuite bathrooms, marine-inspired interiors and furnishings chosen to reflect the colors and textures of the surrounding coastline.
Designed by Woods Bagot, the refurbishment extends beyond the accommodations to reshape the guest experience throughout the camp. A refreshed reception will lead into a new central sundeck and lounge, creating a social heart for the property, while a new dining area with banquette seating and an all-inclusive open bar adds another gathering point. The culinary offering will also be refined around seasonal, locally sourced produce, with Western Australian wines and regional beers included. Guests will continue to explore the landscape through guided gorge walks, snorkeling, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding, with optional whale shark and humpback whale swims offering encounters with Ningaloo’s marine life.
The Curated Take
Sal Salis has always made its setting the centerpiece of the stay, and the refurbishment appears designed to strengthen rather than compete with that proposition. Reclaimed timber, woven details and materials selected to weather naturally connect the interiors to the coastal environment, while the new communal spaces give guests more ways to gather between adventures. It is a thoughtful interpretation of barefoot luxury, where comfort is elevated without losing the sense that you are living lightly within a remarkable wilderness.
