Karijini National Park Adds New Access to the Dramatic Knox Gorge
September 20, 2026
Western Australia’s Karijini National Park has received a $2.1 million infrastructure upgrade, improving access to one of its most spectacular areas. At Knox Gorge, visitors can now make use of a raised steel boardwalk and new accessible path leading to the gorge lookout, along with an expanded car park, new toilet facilities and upgraded picnic areas.
Known for its rugged red-rock landscapes, deep gorges, rock pools and waterfalls, Karijini offers a dramatically different side of Western Australia from the beaches and vineyards associated with Perth and the southwest. The improvements make it easier for more visitors to experience the landscape while enhancing facilities in a region where the wilderness remains the primary attraction.
The Curated Take:
The most interesting part of the investment may be its balance between access and landscape. Better infrastructure can make a remote natural attraction more approachable without taking away the reason travelers came in the first place: the feeling of entering a vast, otherworldly Australian wilderness.
