Bora Bora is preparing for a new chapter in luxury hospitality as the former InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa undergoes an extensive transformation ahead of its late 2027 reopening as Regent Bora Bora. The new resort will mark Regent Hotels & Resorts’ debut in French Polynesia, bringing the brand to a private motu on the eastern edge of Bora Bora’s lagoon.

The 84-villa resort will be exclusively overwater, with direct lagoon access and views toward Mount Otemanu and the open Pacific. The renovation will introduce Regent’s approach to contemporary luxury while retaining the natural and cultural character of the setting, with immersive dining, personalized service and experiences designed to connect guests with Polynesian culture. Regent’s signature Personal Havens and Regent Experience Agents will also become part of the guest experience.

The resort’s sustainability story will continue as well. Its existing seawater air-conditioning system draws naturally cold water from the depths of the Pacific to cool the property, reducing the electricity required for air conditioning and refrigeration by approximately 90 percent. The system will remain in operation following the transformation, preserving an unusual piece of environmental innovation as the resort enters its next era.

The Curated Take: The most interesting aspect of Regent Bora Bora is not simply the arrival of another luxury brand in an iconic destination. It is the opportunity to see an established resort reimagined without losing the qualities that make its setting distinctive. An exclusively overwater design, Polynesian cultural connection and an existing sustainability innovation give the transformation a story that goes beyond a brand conversion.
