Capella Sydney has been awarded Two MICHELIN Keys for 2026, becoming the only hotel in Sydney to receive the distinction this year and advancing from One MICHELIN Key in 2025. The recognition comes during a particularly strong period for the hotel, which was also named No. 16 on The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026 list and Best Hotel in Oceania for the second consecutive year. Together, the accolades reflect a property that has quickly established an identity rooted not simply in luxury, but in design, hospitality and a strong connection to Sydney.

That sense of place begins with the building itself. Capella Sydney occupies the heritage-listed former Department of Education building in the city’s Sandstone Precinct, where original architectural details are paired with contemporary Australian design and a collection of more than 1,400 artworks. Since opening in 2023, the hotel has extended that connection through its dining, wellness and cultural offerings, including Brasserie 1930, McRae Bar, Auriga Spa and its Culturists, who introduce guests to the people, places and stories that shape the city.

The Curated Take: The second MICHELIN Key is significant because Capella Sydney is no longer simply a beautifully restored historic building with a new luxury hotel inside it. The property has had several years to establish how it interprets Sydney through art, architecture, hospitality and access to the city, making this recognition feel more like an acknowledgment of an emerging Sydney institution than a debut accolade.
